Snowy Owl

Snowy owls are one of the few owls that hunt during daylight hours in the Arctic summer.

Unlike most owls, males get whiter with age — old males can be almost pure white.

They can swallow lemmings whole, eating up to 1,600 per year.

During irruption years, they travel far south, sometimes reaching the northern United States.

Their feathers are so thick that even their legs and toes are covered in insulation.
