Coelophysis bauri is shown from a vetted PBDB fossil occurrence in Chinle, United States. The occurrence is dated to the Rhaetian interval (205.7-201.4 Ma), with locality evidence recorded as SE 1/4, SE 1/4, SW 1/4, sec 1, T24N, R4E. Ghost Ranch, orig. owned by Arthur N. Pack.

Coelophysis was a carnivore. It lived in the Jurassic period and inhabited Africa and North America. Its fossils have been found in places such as Texas, Yunnan (China) and Matabeleland North (Zimbabwe).
